Sample rate
From DNBWiki
In digital systems, the sample rate is measured in Hertz and dictates the speed at which new data points are recorded. A standard redbook CD has a sample rate of 44,100Hz which means 44100 different decibel values are being played back every second. The more data collected per second, the better the representation of the original waveform will be.
The sample rate has an effect on the frequency range of the sound. (See: The Nyquist Theorem)
