[edit] Theory

Not to nit-pick, but the 808 kick is a square wave with a very heavily resonated LP self-oscillating filter over it, starting open, but quickly dropping the filter's cutoff to the square wave's final fundimental after it's pitch envelope. That's atleast what the Waldorf "Programming Drum Sounds" says, and the waldorf drum synths are the only synths I've heard accurate 808 kicks from. If you look at an 808 kick's waveform you can see how the first few cycles are peaked like pulse waves. So maybe the Theory section could be revised? Just a thought.

It's not a square imho. More like a sine that's been distorted (and hence pushed in the direction of, but not completely reaching, a square), no? Also, I would imagine you get "accurate" 808 kicks from Roland gear, just a thought ;)
